The Carnac Stones: An Out-of-this-World Attraction
The Carnac Stones constitute a very well-known site since it is a system of over 3,000 standing stones located in Carnac, France. In particular, Carnac is a fascinating village which houses more or less five thousand people. It is situated in the coast of Brittany, in the northwestern part of France.
The pre-Celtic people in Brittany were the ones who erected the famous Carnac Stones, which were hewn from rocks found locally. Definitely, you would not believe that you are so close to the megaliths that you are able to find there since they were erected during the Neolithic period. In addition, it is considered that these megaliths remained for 2500 years as an approximate: from 4500 BC until 2000 BC. However, determining an exact date has been really difficult. A group of experts and visitors believe that successive generations are responsible of putting the stones up with the purpose of honoring their ancestors.
The beautiful Carnac Stones are made up of different kinds of megaliths, and this is the reason why experts of the subject matter, investigators and travelers willing to have different experiences are so interested about going there. The types include Alignments, Stone, Circles, Dolmen, Tumuli, Standing Stones and Engravings. In this sense, the Carnac Stones are a combination of beautiful landscapes, historical and cultural features, archaeology and time. If you want to feel how time has passed by in France, you should really go to the Carnac Stones.
