Masterpieces of American Jewelry at the Musée Carnavalet in Paris
Nobody expressed it better than Marilyn Monroe: “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend”. The “Bijoux de Stars” exhibition presented by New York’s National Jewelry Institute at the Musée Carnavalet is a shining example of the verity of this statement. A collection of over 200 pieces are on display at the Musée Carnavalet created by the most famous names established in New York (such as Tiffany and Van Cleef & Arpels, to name but two) and worn by a plethora of leading ladies. Twentieth-century screen legends, Hollywood stars and society figures have all worn these jewelry creations -- Joan Crawford, Loretta Young, Grace Kelly, Mona Bismarck, the Duchess of Windsor and Jackie Kennedy. The Musée Carnavalet, the Museum of the History of Paris, preserves collections which illustrate the history of the evolution of the city of Paris. Installed in two private mansions, it presents a vast choice for visitors looking to experience Paris’ past, through works of art and artifacts. The Musée Carnavalet is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00 am -6:00 pm. Admission is 7€.
