Saint-Cloud is a commune in the western suburbs of Paris, France. It is located at about 9.6 kilometers far away from the center of Paris. The town is named after Clodoald, grandson of Clovis, who is supposed to have sought refuge in the hamlet of Novigentum. Canonized after his death, the village where his tomb was located took the name of Sanctus Clodoaldus. A park contains the ruins of the Palace of Saint-Cloud, built in 1572 and destroyed by fire in 1870, during the Franco-Prussian War. The land area of the city is 7.56 square kilometers. The population of the city as of 1999 census was 28,157 and density in 1999 was 3,724 per square kilometers.
