Montrouge

France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometers, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of The European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. The sole official language of France is French. Since prehistoric times, France has been a crossroads of trade, migrations, and invasions.

Montrouge is a commune in the southern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located 4.4 kilometers from the center of Paris. It is one of the most densely populated municipalities in Europe. The total area of the city is 2.07 square kilometers and the population in July 1, 2004 estimated was 41,700. Its name comes from the Latin words monte mount and rubeus red, meaning Red Mountain according to the reddish color of the ground. The name was mentioned in 1194.

On January 1, 1860, the city of Paris was enlarged by annexing neighboring communes. On that occasion, the largest part of the commune of Montrouge was annexed to Paris, and forms now the neighborhood of Petit-Montrouge, in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. It is part of the Ile-de-France region, is adjacent to the city of Paris and forms part of the western suburbs of Paris. It is small and densely populated and contains the modern office, theatre, and shopping complex known as La Defense with its Grande Arche. Montrouge is a city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages.
