Vichy
France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometers, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of The European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. The sole official language of France is French. Since prehistoric times, France has been a crossroads of trade, migrations, and invasions. Vichy is a French commune, situated in the department of Allier and the region of Auvergne. It is known as a spa and resort town. The inhabitants are known as Vichyssois. It was the capital of Vichy France during the World War II Nazi German occupation from 1940 to 1944. It has a population of 78,000 inhabitants as of 1999 with a land area of 5.85 square kilometers. Allier is a department in south-central France named after the Allier River. The City has been known for its thermal cures since Roman times. Its waters are famous worldwide coming from springs including Vichy Celestins and Vichy Saint-Yorre, but lozenges made from soda contained in the spring waters are also famous. Vichy, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place. It is also said the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origin back to prehistoric times.
