Vannes
France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometres, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of The European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. The sole official language of France is French. Since prehistoric times, France has been a crossroads of trade, migrations, and invasions. Vannes Breton Gwened is a town and commune located in the Morbihan department in Brittany, in the west of France. It was founded more than 2000 years ago. Vannes is located along the Gulf of Morbihan, at the confluence of the Vannes River. It is a market town and often linked to the sea. The total area is of 32.3 square kilometers and its population in 1999 estimated was 51,759 with density of 1,602 per square kilometers. In ancient times, the people of Vannes resisted the Roman invasion under Julius Caesar quite successfully. In fact, these Armoricans were a model for the fractious tribe of the Asterix comic book series. They were great sailors and whenever they were threatened they took to the sea. A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, luxurious hotels and cottages, Vannes is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
