Toulouse




France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometers, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of The European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. The sole official language of France is French. Since prehistoric times, France has been a crossroads of trade, migrations, and invasions.
 
Toulouse is a city in southwest France on the banks of the Garonne River, half-way between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. With 964, 797 inhabitants in 2006, the city’s metropolitan area is the second largest in southern France and one of the fastest growing in Europe. It is the home base of the European aerospace industry that includes Alcatel Alenia Space and European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company, EADS Astrium and hosts the headquarters of Airbus S.A.S. The city is located on the banks of the Garonne and the Canal du Midi.
 
The main industries are space, aeronautics, information technology, electronics and biotechnology. It also hosts one of the two main factories of Airbus, the other one being in Hamburg, Germany. Toulouse, known as the Ville Rose that means the Pink City for its distinctive brick architecture, is host to a diverse and rich culture.
 
Toulouse is considered an epicentre for rugby union. The city will be hosting games at the 2007 Rugby World Cup in addition. The city also has a football team in Toulouse and a rugby league team, Toulouse Olympique, who have won the French championship on four events. The city's cooking specialties include Saucisses de Toulouse, a type of herb sausage, cassoulet Toulousain, a bean and pork stew, and garbure, a cabbage soup with poultry. Also, foie gras, the liver of an overfed duck or goose, is a delicacy mostly made in the Midi-Pyrenees.

A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, luxurious hotels and cottages, Toulouse is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
