Melun




France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometers, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of The European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. The sole official language of France is French. Since prehistoric times, France has been a crossroads of trade, migrations, and invasions.
 
Melun is a municipality in the southeastern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located 41.4 kilometers from the center of Paris. Melun is the prefecture capital of the Seine-et-Marne department, as well as the seat of the Arrondissement of Melun. Its inhabitants are called melunais. The city started on an island in the Seine and is south-southeast of Paris. Melun is served by Melun station, which is an interchange station on Paris RER, Reseau Express Regional, line D, on the Transilien Paris-Lyon suburban rail line, and on several national rail lines. The population of Melun as of July 1, 2004 is thirty seven thousand five hundred and as of March 8, 1999 it was thirty five thousand six hundred ad ninety five.
