France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometers, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of The European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. The sole official language of France is French. Since prehistoric times, France has been a crossroads of trade, migrations, and invasions.

Martigues is a town and commune in the southeastern part of France, to the northwest of Marseille. It is part of the Bouches-du-Rhone departement and lies in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region on the eastern end of the Canal de Caronte. In the 1999 census, Martigues had a population of 43,493.

Martigues was founded by Ramon Berenguer IV, count of Provence in 1232 on the likely site of the Roman camp Maritima Avaticorum. Bouches-du-Rhone is a departement in the south of France named after the mouth of the Rhone River. Bouches-du-Rhone was one of the original 83 departements created during the French Revolution on March 4, 1790. It was created from part of the former province of Provence and the principalities of Orange, Martigues, and Lambesc. It lost part of its territory in 1793, including Orange and Apt, when the Vaucluse departement was created.

It can also be considered as the preeminent, historical and potential tourism destination that enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers to become one of the most visited places.
