Maisons-Laffitte
France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. Maisons-Laffitte is a community in the northwestern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located 18.2 kilometers from the center of Paris. Maisons-Laffitte is well-known for the Chateau de Maisons-Laffitte, built by architect Francois Mansart in the 17th century. Maisons-Laffitte is known for its horse racing track, the Hippodrome de Maisons-Laffitte as well. In 1999, the population of the city was 21,856 and an area of 6.75 square kilometers.
Initially called Maisons-sur-Seine the community was officially renamed Maisons-Laffitte in 1882 in honor of banker Jacques Laffitte who financed the housing developments on the estate of the Chateau de Maisons-Laffitte. Maisons-Laffitte is served by Maisons-Laffitte station on Paris RER, Reseau Express Regional line A and on the Transilien Paris – Saint-Lazare suburban rail line.
