France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometers, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of the European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. The sole official language of France is French. Since prehistoric times, France has been a crossroads of trade, migrations, and invasions. Houilles is a commune in the northwestern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located at about 14.2 kilometers, around 8.8 miles, far away from the center of Paris. Houilles is served by Houilles Carrieres-sur-Seine station on Paris rail line A and also on the Transilien Paris Saint-Lazare suburban rail line. Yvelines is a French department in the region of Ile-de-France. Yvelines was created from the western part of the no longer existing department of Seine-et-Oise on January 1, 1968 in accordance with a law passed on January 10, 1964 and a decret d'application from February 26, 1965. Presently, Houilles experiences a sharp social, economic and population growth derivative of the strategic position of the locality and the high level of well-being and quality of life that is enjoyed with respect to other places of France. Houilles, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place.
