Gonesse




France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Gonesse is a town in the northeastern suburbs of Paris in France. It is situated 10.2 miles from the centre of Paris immediately north of Le Bourget Airport and southwest of Charles de Gaulle International Airport. Its area is 20.09 squared kilometers and its population was 24,721 inhabitants as in 1999. It has a population density of 1,231 persons per kilometer. Its history includes King Philip II of France, who was born on 21 August 1165. On 25 July 2000, a Concorde supersonic airliner crashed in Gonesse. It is served by no station of the Paris Metro suburban rail network.
 
The closest station to Gonesse is Villiers-le-Beland and the Arnouville station on Paris line D. This station is situated in the adjoining community of Arnouville-les-Gonesse, which is 1.6 miles from the town center of Gonesse. Val-d'Oise is a French department named after the Oise River, located in the Ile-de-France region.  It was formed when the previous departments, Seine and Seine-et-Oise were broken up in six departments in 1968.
