France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. At 674,843 square kilometers, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of the European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. The sole official language of France is French. Since prehistoric times, France has been a crossroads of trade, migrations, and invasions. Compiegne is a commune in the Oise department of France, of which it is a sous-prefecture. The city is located along the Oise River. Its inhabitants are called as Compiegnois. Oise is a department in the north of France named after the Oise River. Compiegne is the chief town of 3 cantons that are the Canton of Compiegne-Nord, Canton of Compiegne-Sud-Est towards the southeast with 4 communes and Canton of Compiegne-Sud-Ouest to the southwest with 5 communes.
