Cavaillon
France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometres, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of The European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. The sole official language of France is French. Since prehistoric times, France has been a crossroads of trade, migrations, and invasions.
Cavaillon is a commune of the Vaucluse department, in southern France. Population of the commune in the year 1999 was 24,563. It has an altitude of 75 meters with an area of 45.96 kilometers. Economically Cavaillon is famous for its melons. The Vaucluse is a department in the southeast of France. The Vaucluse was created on 8 December 1793 out of parts of the departments of Bouches-du-Rhone, Drome, and Basses-Alpes.
The Vaucluse is bordered by the Rhone to the west and the River Durance to the south. Mountains occupy a significant proportion of the eastern half of the department, with Mont Ventoux of 1,912 meters, also known as the Giant of Provence, dominating the landscape. Other important mountain ranges include the Dentelles de Montmirail, the Monts de Vaucluse, and the Luberon. Fruit and vegetables are cultivated in great quantities in the lower-lying parts of the department, on one of the most fertile plains in southern France. The Vaucluse department has a rather large exclave within the Drome department, the canton of Valreas.
Cavaillon is also said the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace. Cavaillon, due its various places of interest is one of the most visited places.
